About Me
“Design is the depiction of the artist’s personal journey and displays the unavoidable coexistence of culture and identity” - Tooba Athar
Fashion Institute of Art and Design (FIDM)
I transferred to FIDM Los Angeles in 2020 and obtained my Associate of Arts Degree in Textile Design in 2021. In December 2022, I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Design, Textile Design.
Ontario College of Art and Design University (OCAD U)
I am a passionate and motivated textile designer who loves printmaking, surface design, and bold colours. Before moving to Orange County, California, I lived in Toronto, Canada where I studied Material Art and Design, specializing in Textile Design at OCAD University.
I am constantly inspired by the tactile experience of the world around me, from the vines in leaves to the bumps in concrete. In my art, I explore the definition of identity and connectedness with culture, and how that coincides with the journey of personal discovery. With a Pakistani-Canadian background, I have concluded that the abstraction of art is essential in design to create a shared experience and portray the blend of different cultures and how multiple identities can live with each other, despite the conflict.
